PROBLEM STATEMENT

The 2D platformer has been a staple of the mid-to-late 2000's and for most individuals, it has been one of, if not the very first experience most people have into the wonderful world of gaming. 2D platformers have slowly fallen out of favour due to the ever-growing accessibility of powerful 3D-orientated game-engines like Unreal, Anvil, and Frostbyte, and with the decline of Flash as a web-medium, platformers are in an ever-deepening decline.

BRIEF

The brief was fairly straight-forward. Create a playable demo to pitch a concept for a full-production game. We were granted full autonomy to create the demo to whatever style and pacing we wanted on the condition that the objectives were met

OBJECTIVES

The demo had to be playable for at least 3 minutes. It needed to be 2D and be in platformer genre of games and be created specifically with the pc player base in mind

SOLUTION

Continuance is an app that allows a user to register a linked account to their psych, which in turn holds a digital copy of the script that the assigned practitioner can use to make script alterations on the fly and keep a record of it and also allows the patient to readily get access to the medication they need in a more convenient way.

Should the user need to move, for whatever reason, away from the practitioner and their local pharmacy, the app allows the user to request either a transfer of the file from their current practitioner or to temporarily make a script available at another pharmacy in another region.

SYMBOLS AND ICONS

The icons were designed to be as clean and unassuming as possible, both to give the user the space to figure out their place in the user-flow journey, but also to streamline the processes they will utilise to make the app more efficient to them.

THE NAME & LOGO

The name and logo was derived by its purpose, to help individuals continue on their treatment plans with as little disruption to their lives as possible, an idea that should inspire individuals to take their health into their own hands without feeling the burden of fear of a poorly tailored treatment plan, side-effects or disruption to their busy lives.

THE MAIN MENU

The main menu was created with simplicity in mind, mimicking the user interface of modern smartphones but simplified to 4 distinct items to simplify the script renewal, appointment setup, and emergency response processes, each of which is concisely worded to acheive the optimum outcome in any situation.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

We know that life gets complicated when we least expect it, so the app is designed to address those emergency situations. Should an unfortunate event arise, a patient can send an emergency response directly to their primary practitioner, allowing the practitioner to make the necessary arrangements at a moments notice, such as activating a temporary script accessible in a specific area for a limited time or transfering files to a new practitioner who will be taking over the care of the patient and future treatment plans.

FINDING ONE'S WAY

Continuance has a built-in map system with integrated data from pharmacy databases, allowing pharmacies to be found and have the script sent there simultaneously and changes to a script by the practitioner to be reflected immediately. This also allows a script to be accessible in multiple locations without any additional hassle. Should the patient move to another permanent residence out of access to their primary healthcare practitioner, the app makes it easy to quickly formalise a transfer of the patient file without any stress to the patient.

SCRIPT & MEDICAL INFO

At the end of the day, it is important to know and understand the treatment to find the will to stick with it. To this end, the basic script info will always be accessible to the user. The user can gleam things like dosage, remaining repeats, as well as check the history of how the script has changed as the treatment has progressed, but most importantly, info about the meds are accessible to the user at all times, giving them peace of mind as to its efficacy, and allowing open dialogue with the prescriber should that info be insuficient in settling those concerns.
